Public Lands

Nearly 85 percent of Nevada is public land, owned by all Americans. Nevada’s public lands provide habitat for wildlife like Bighorn sheep, Desert tortoise, Elk, Gila monster, Lahontan cutthroat trout, Mountain bluebird, Mule Deer, Pronghorn, Sage grouse, and too many other species to list.

Nevada’s public lands are also where we camp, climb, fish, hike, hunt, ski, raft, trail run, watch wildlife, and enjoy time with our family and friends – all contributing to our state’s $12 billion outdoor recreation economy. From the rugged Desert National Wildlife Refuge, to the spectacular mountains of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, to the pitches and trails of Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, Nevada’s public lands define our quality of life.

We are committed to conserving Nevada’s public lands and the wildlife habitat they provide, and to ensuring all Nevadans have equitable access to outdoor opportunities, regardless of any aspect of a person’s background.
