NEVADA- Avi Kwa Ame (Pronunciation: Ah-VEE kwa-meh), the Mojave name for Spirit Mountain, will be Nevada’s 4th national monument. The Avi Kwa Ame National Monument is located between the Lake Mead National Recreation Area and the Nevada/California border covering nearly 450,000 acres in southwestern Nevada. The area is rich in both history and beauty. In addition to being sacred to 12 tribes, it also is habitat for Nevada’s state mammal, the desert bighorn sheep, Mojave Desert tortoise and mule deer.

“Converting the acreage into a national monument will benefit hunters as well as animals and plants.” said Russell Kuhlman, executive director of the Nevada Wildlife Federation. “We applaud the Biden Administration for working with Nevada’s sporting community to ensure hunting, trapping, wildlife infrastructure installation and maintenance will continue to be allowed within the national monument”.
