The 1997 Conservation
Achievement Awards for the various categories are as follows:
State Conservationist
of the Year:
Hugh Judd
Mr. Judd, a Reno contractor, has been active in conservation activities for several years. He has donated thousands of hours on volunteer projects for the Lahontan Audubon Society, the Nevada Waterfowl Association, the Nevada Bighorns Unlimited - Reno, and the the Lahontan Wetland Coalition.

Conservation Organization of
the Year:
Nevada Bighorns Unlimited, Reno
The Reno chapter of the Nevada Bighorns Unlimited (NBU) has funded four college summer internships for Nevada high school graduates majoring in wildlife management; funded reintroduction programs for big hornsheep, elk, and antelope; furnished funds and volunteer man power for construction of four wildlife water developments; and provided funds for reseeding essential wildlife habitates that were destroyed by range fires last summer. Accepting the award for NBU was Rick Elmore.

Wildlife Conservationist of the
Year:
Rick Brigham
Mr. Brigham is a wildlife biologist with the Carson District of the Bureau of Land Management. He designed, obtained funding, procured volunteer labor, and acted as construction superintendent for nearly two dozen wildlife water developments across the state.

Conservation Eduator of the Year:
Jeff Johnston
Mr. Johnston is a Douglas County School teacher. He created travel kits on current environmental issues for use in the classroom, which enabled teachers to expand their science curriculum.

Hunter Educator of the Year:
Ed Davis, Jr.
Mr. Davis has been a Hunter Education instructor for more than 20 years. As a master instructor he has been active in helping new instructors become proficient at teaching the youth of Carson City and Washoe Valley to be safe and responsible hunters.

Conservation Communicator of
the Year:
Outdoor Nevada
Outdoor Nevada, produced by KLVX Channel 10 in Las Vegas, highlights outdoor opportunities within the state and provides information about conservation and environmental issues which affect our state.
